Math Lead Teacher Feedback 21.8.12

Here are some links to the main areas we covered at the Lead Teacher meeting...

The families section has been updated and now includes...
  • An introductory video for parents
  • Maths at our house section - good for classroom themes (includes gardening/recycling/reading and more).
  • Knowledge activities which could be good for homework
  • Math Kete - ideas for parents about creating a kete of equipment to support maths at home.
  • Other resources – extra links - check out the ECE section for activities which could support our discovery activities and questioning.

Under the math houses/reading theme is a list of picture books at each level and strand. These include activities to go with the books.

e-ako maths

Designed for year 7 & 8 students who are struggling with place value, basic facts, fractions but could be used at middle/senior primary. We looked at place value 2. It uses commonly used materials in each question e.g. tens frames, beans, arrow cards, bundles of sticks etc. (Students can listen to what to do if reading is an issue). Most activities are interactive not just 'type in the answer'.

You can register your class and they can work their way through winning prizes along the way. You have to pass a level before you can move on. There are tutorials to support the activities for students and teachers. It would pay to have a go yourself first.

More figure it out books have been added to the online carousel.

Parent evening ideas - tokens - kids go into a draw if parents bring tokens, a teacher babysits in another class, involve the kids. Send links home in newsletter. What time suits parents to meet (night/after drop off/before pick up) – survey them. Maths morning/afternoon – parents come along – intro in hall then off to classrooms to join in.

Database where OTJ can be uploaded – 4 entries can be added per student.

GLoSS – draft – this gives a more in-depth break down of the test. It is still under review.

There is a new professional learning community to keep you up to date with maths happenings.

The new Book 5 is online and can be downloaded.

ALGEBRA ideas coming soon...
